Your pets are like family, and when you think about them you are probably filled with thoughts of all the love and companionship they bring to your life. What you may not think about is the germs and bacteria they bring into the home along with all the little accidental messes they loving leave behind.

Do you know what your four-legged friends are leaving behind in your home?
Pet Waste – Including vomit, urine & feces
Saliva – Did you know that your dog carries 20 or more types of bacteria in its mouth?
Dander – Did you know that an estimated 10% of all people living in America are allergic to animals?

Pet Dander is the Number one Cause of Allergies

If your beloved pet has left fecal matter or urine on your carpet or upholstery, it is imperative that you thoroughly clean and neutralize the entire area. While there is nothing that can eliminate pet stains like a professional carpet clean from your Steam Green Carpet Cleaning professional, there are some things that you can do at home between professional cleanings that can help keep your home fresh and odor free. Neutralizing is one of the most important components to keeping your pooch from urinating in the same spot. If your dog even gets a whiff of urine that you may have left behind he/she will continue to urinate in the same area over and over.

The knowledgeable carpet cleaning professionals at Steam Green Carpet Cleaning recommend the following solutions between professional deep cleaning treatments to combat emergency pet stains.

Remember: Always test in an inconspicuous area of carpet or upholstery before treating the stained area. If in doubt, contact your Steam Green Carpet Cleaning experts to schedule a professional spot clean.

Supplies you will need include: White vinegar, water, spray bottle, carpet brush, paper towels, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, detergent, vacuum, and most importantly pet odor neutralizer.
• Search using your eyes and nose to find the dog stain on your carpet or upholstery. Once a stain has dried it can be very difficult to see. More often than not, urine will produce an offensive odor. Once you have located the stain, mix together equal parts of water and white vinegar and place in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the urine stain and allow the solution to lightly soak the carpet fibers. Using your carpet brush gently rub the solution and blot the area with paper towels.
• Allow the area to completely dry. Once dry, sprinkle a large handful of baking soda on to the carpet or upholstery. Mix together ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide with 1 teaspoon of detergent. Using gloves pour the mixture over the baking soda. Once the baking soda dissolves, use your gloved fingers to rub the solution in the carpet finishing with a carpet brush to ensure that the solution reaches the carpet fibers.
• Once the carpet has completely dried, vacuum over the area thoroughly to remove any residue. If the stain is still visible, repeat the process until the stain has been removed, finishing with a liberal spray of a pet odor neutralizer to eliminate any trace odors from your carpet or upholstery.
