Warmer temperatures mean that Easter is just around the corner. Children love to run through the grass looking for hidden Easter eggs filled with all sorts of treats. Easter egg hunts usually start in the morning when the grass is still wet from dew. The children run in and now the carpets are wet and Easter baskets with dyes in them have been set down on the carpet. Crafts made of tissue and crepe paper can stain when they get wet and the color can bleed. The paper grass that is used in Easter baskets also has dyes in it.

Removing Dyes from Carpet

• Always blot as much of the stain as possible. Use a clean, dry towel and never scrub
• Use a spot carpet cleaner and follow the directions
• Again, blot and don’t scrub. Scrubbing will only spread the stain
• Repeat as needed
Another method to try- Use ¼ tsp dishwashing liquid with a cup of warm water. Use a clean white cloth or paper towel and repeat until the dye no longer transfers. You’ll need to rinse with plain water to remove the solution, otherwise the detergent will attract soil.

How to Remove Chocolate Stains from Carpet

Chocolate and Easter go hand in hand; and kids love it! But chocolate stains are unsightly on your carpet. Unfortunately, chocolate stains are some of the hardest stains to remove.
• Scrape off as much of it as you can. Chocolate melts fast, so work quickly. Gently scrap it off otherwise you can damage the carpet fibers. This won’t remove the stain completely, but it will make the next step easier because it won’t be as thick.
• Vacuum. After you’ve removed as much of the chocolate as possible the next step is to vacuum. This will remove all the tiny flakes of chocolate that are left behind. These tiny flakes can re-melt of make it harder to remove the stain because it will just get rubbed back in when you start cleaning it. Use a strong vacuum to suck as much as you can.
• Use hot water. Remember that chocolate melts easily so use hot water to re-melt it, so you can remove it out of the fibers. Once its melted, you can then blot it.
• If the hot water doesn’t work, you can try using detergent and a brush. Always work from the outside in.
• You can try bleach but be careful as it can remove the pigment in your carpet. Bleach is very concentrated so just a drop can permanently stain your carpet.
