Christmas Tree Floor Protector Tips & How to Clean Sap Stains; Waterproof Stand Tray or Mat & Cover in Long Beach, CA

Christmas trees are a major part of the tradition during this magical time of year. Some folks are over the top excited and have their tree up before Thanksgiving where some don’t bother until Christmas Eve and others are somewhere in between. No matter where you fall in the spectrum, you still need to protect the floor, whether you have carpets, hardwood floors, or specialized tile. Today, we at Steam Green Carpet Cleaning would like to share some basic tips on how you can protect your floor from the negative aspects of having a live Christmas tree up in your home.

Christmas Tree Floor Protector Tips

1. Falling Needles on Carpet. Just as you put freshly cut flowers in a vase full of water in an effort to preserve their beauty, the same principle applies to cut trees. Trees not submerged in water will dry out extremely quickly and dry trees will lose their needles in excess. If there needles continue to fall, keeping them clean can prove to be a challenge. To avoid the needles from falling to the floor before the big day, keep your tree well hydrated and away from heat sources that will contribute to tree drying out quickly.
2. Use Waterproof Barrier. While keeping your tree well watered is important and crucial, your carpets and hardwood floor do not do well with over exposure to water. Water damage can cause significant damage and cost to repair or even replace. Instead of risking any leaks or spills around the stand, place a plastic sheet or something waterproof under the tree that is discrete but can still catch any water accidents that might develop.
3. Avoiding Tree Stand Stains. In many instances, the stand; especially if influenced by water, can create stains on the various surfaces. Whereas the stands are generally painted variations of green, red, and black, the stains could prove problematic. Having the implements to contain any water issues from occurring should also be hardy enough to deter any staining from the stand from besmirching your carpets, tile, or hardwood floor surfaces.
4. Cleaning Sap Stains. Sap is one of the hardest things to contend with if your tree is making a sappy mess all over the place. Sap is extremely sticky and thick and if any messes should occur, rubbing alcohol is one of the most effective agents that dissolve the sap from off of the surfaces. Simply apply a few drops on a clean cloth and blot up the stain. Make sure to perform a patch test in an inconspicuous area to insure it is safe to use.
