General Carpet Stain Removal Tips

Steam Green Carpet Cleaning extends our customer service to our commercial and residential customers in Los Angeles, California online. We have compiled a simple carpet spot removal guide to assist you in removing basic stains for your convenience.
Before You Start: To contain the stain and make spot removal easier, practice a few basic steps to remember when treating any spot.
– No matter if you opt to use household remedies or a commercial carpet cleaner, never skip the patch test by applying a small amount of the solution in an inconspicuous area.
– Do not use hot water to treat stains as that can set the stain into the carpet, and never over saturate stains with liquids.
– To contain and treat stains, work the outer perimeter of the stains and come towards the center, blotting as you go. Never scrub or rub as you on work the stain deeper into the fibers and spread it out.
– Only use white cloths, towels, or paper towels to treat spots as dyes and print can potentially transfer onto carpet while you are trying to remove a stain, leaving you with more problems.

Carpet Spot & Stain Removal Guide

Cigarette Burns – With a dull knife gently rubbing off the blemish caused by a mild scorch from a cigarette is easily done by scraping the pile.
Fat, Oil, and Wax Stains – To remove these stains from the carpet easily use towels and an iron. Flip the iron on a “warm” setting; avoid using the hot setting, as that can singe the carpet. With the iron and slight pressure, pull the stain up by placing a paper towel over the top of the stain. The fat, oil, and wax will absorb into the paper towel with ease and come right off your carpet.
Glue Spills – Apply rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball or cloth and sponge it on the glue and gently work the alcohol into the stains. Wipe away the residue with a clean, dry cloth and repeat until the glue is completely dissolved.
Gum and Sticky Candy – Place ice cubes on the gum and candy until it is frozen and with a spoon, or another blunt object, shatter the stain. Pick up the large fragments and vacuum the remnants.
Nail Polish Spills – You may have to use multiple rags if the polish is excessive; apply a generous amount of nail polish removal on a rag and work the polish out.
Urine Stains & Odors – Absorb excess liquid with a paper towel or dry rag; use pressure to blot the remaining stain with a damp cloth. Combine one part water and one part white vinegar in a spray bottle and spray the solution onto the stain and allow it to set. Mix ½ tsp of clear, mild, non-bleach detergent with 32 ounces of water and sponge that solution on top of the previous application and blot the treated area with moderate pressure and a dry cloth.

Special Water-Soluble Stains

Requiring more power, these spots are more complex.
Special water-soluble stains such as; wine, vomit, tea, mustard, coffee, chocolate, and blood are a few examples of special water-soluble stains. Mix 1 tbsp ammonia and 1 cup water to remove the special water-soluble stains. Carpet manufactured out of wool or wool blends should substitute the water with a mild instead.
Water-Soluble Stains – Water-soluble stains are simpler to remove. Water-soluble stains examples can include alcoholic beverages, berries, colas, excrement, food, dyes, gravy, ice cream, jelly, milk, mud, washable ink, and wet or latex paint. Simply mix ¼ tsp non-bleach detergent or white vinegar with 32 ounces of water to remove the majority of water-soluble stains.
