It’s always better to clean a stain up right away, but this might not always be possible. The word “stain” seems to imply permanent, but in some cases, it’s possible to remove stains that have set in. If you can’t remove the stain you might be able to make it look better. You can get that stain out if you have a little know how. Sometimes simple is better and there are methods can be very effective in removing set in stains from carpet. Steam Green Carpet Cleaning offers helpful tips below.

Carpet Stain Removal Tips

Always test a hidden area before you start and check for signs that the solution might discolor the carpet. The outcome will vary depending on the kind of carpet you have and the fibers. Carpets made with natural fibers are always more difficult to clean. Always work from the outside of the stain into the middle. This ensure that you won’t spread the stain. Apply the solution, blot, rinse, extract and repeat as needed. Don’t leave cleaning solutions on your carpet and make sure it’s completely dry as soon as you’re done cleaning it, otherwise it will attract dirt.

How Do You Get Deep Stains Out of Carpet?

1. Sprinkle baking soda on the stain, allow it to absorb and then vacuum it up. For older stains, you can leave the baking soda on longer. This will add more power to the mixture. Follow this by adding a tablespoon of white vinegar, a tablespoon of clear dish washing liquid with two cups of warm water if the spot isn’t brand ne. The baking soda should stay on the spot while you’re dabbing the stain with the vinegar mixture. This will allow the baking soda and vinegar to react and break the stain up better.
2. A $1 bottle of hydrogen peroxide might be all you need. Pour the hydrogen peroxide into a spray bottle and spray it onto the old stain. Make sure you get it really wet so it will break up the stain’s particles and let it sit for about 10 minutes. After that, you will need to put a little work into it. Grab a stiff brush and work on the stain to continue to loosen the dirt up. You can then use a steam vac to extract the peroxide mixture from the carpet. If you can’t get your hands on one, you can use clean clothes and towels to absorb it. Stand on them or place heavy objects on top. If you’re lucky, the carpet will look much better than it did before.
3. Club soda is another way to go. It’s better to use on a fresh stain but can work on older stains too. Put the club soda in a spray bottle and spray the stain. Leave it for a few minutes and use a brush to work it into the stain. Use a steam vac or towels and cloths to absorb the club soda.
4. Sprinkling some salt over the stain after you’ve sprayed the hydrogen peroxide or the club soda might help with removing it. Salt pulls moisture out of anything and will help pull the peroxide or soda out with the stain.

Clients Testimonials

We didnt have the funds to buy new carpet so we thought we would try them. They were able to get the pet smell out and they even were able to get oil paint from my 2 year old out of an upstairs bedroom carpet. Would use again.
