With a white cloth, blot at the red wine stain to help soak up as much of the wine as possible into the cloth. After blotting up as much of the wine as possible, discard the cloth and get a clean one. Pour cold water directly onto the stain to help dilute the remaining wine. Once again blot up the moisture with a dry cloth. Mix one part water with 2 parts of baking soda together. This mixture creates a paste which you gently rub on top of the affected area. Once the paste had dried, use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the paste which should result in a clean carpet.
 

How to Clean Red Wine Stains with White Wine Vinegar & Dish Soap

With this method you will want to again blot up the wine with a dry cloth or paper towel to prevent the wine from soaking too deep into the carpet. With a small bowl, mix together two cups of warm water with one tablespoon of white wine vinegar and one tablespoon liquid dish soap. Dip a sponge into the mixture until the sponge is soaked. Blot at the stain with the sponge. Continue to blot at the stain until the red wine lifts out of the carpet. Once the red wine stain is gone, allow the area to dry. Use the vacuum cleaner to restore the carpet pile. Depending on the size of the stain you may have a large area to clean. If the stain is large, make sure to blot on the outside of the stain and work your way inwards to prevent the wine from spreading.
