Cats and dogs are furry extensions of the family. Their entertaining demeanor and personalities as well as the loyalty and companionship that defines unconditional love is definitely worth the maintenance and cost required to have them in our lives. But our adorable pets often inflict damage to the materials in the home inadvertently. A prime example is our pets constant shedding, especially when the seasons changes, causing their hair or fur to embed in the carpet fibers. When attempting to remove the shed hair from the carpets even the vacuum protests the volume of hair; making it a challenge to effectively remove from off the carpet. Considering that, we at Steam Green Carpet Cleaning would like to offer some tips, methods, and advice on maintaining the pet hair that is overwhelming the carpets.

Method #1 – Sponge Mop Removes Pet Hair from Carpet: This method is better suited for low-pile carpeting.
Gather the following:
– Vacuum
– Spray bottle with water
– Clean Kitchen Sponge Mop
Pet Hair Removal Process
1) Start by running the vacuum thoroughly over the carpet.
2) Lightly mist the sponge mop with pure water.
3) To remove any resistant pet hair from the carpet fibers, glide the mop across the carpet’s surface. This method will clump the pet’s hair up, allowing you to remove it from the carpets with vacuum or by hand.

Method #2 – Fabric Softener Pet Hair Removal from Carpet: You will need the following items:
– Water
– Vacuum
– Spray bottle
– Liquid fabric softener
Pet Hair Removal Process
1) Combine 1 part fabric softener with 3 parts water in a spray bottle and mix well.
2) Mildly spray the carpet with the solution. Do not to saturate the carpet; a slight mist is all that is needed.
3) Allow it to dry; with a light mist it shouldn’t take very long at all.
4) Thoroughly vacuum the floor. The fabric softener will loosen the hairs from the carpet fibers, making vacuuming a breeze and fairly efficient.

Method #3 – Baking Soda Removes Pet Hair from Carpet
Collect the following:
– Baking soda
– Vacuum
Pet Hair Removal Process
1) First, sprinkle the carpet with a fine layer of baking soda.
2) Let it sit for 10 minutes.
3) Completely vacuum the carpet. Not only does the baking soda help lift it from the carpet it also deodorizes.
Additional Tips
1) Wearing a pair of rubber gloves to attract the pet hair, you can manually work the hair out of the fiber with your hands.
2) Using a squeegee that is long enough to push along the floor, pull the hairs up with the rubber and follow up with a thorough vacuuming.
3) Considering upgrading your current vacuum and invest with in a vacuum engineered to remove pet hair from carpets.
4) If all methods fail, hire a professional to assist the pet hair removal project.

The summer is finally here and it is time to enjoy the warm weather, long days and kids home from school all day! Those quiet mornings after school drop offs are no more and running in and out of the house is here. It always starts off really great and fun until you start to notice the messes that are left all over the house. It also seems that they are tracking in more and more mess from outside into your home and on the carpets. You have to come up with ideas on how to deal with the messes during the long summer and especially the ones that cause damage to your carpets. There are several ways that you can stop some of the dirt from damaging your carpet and staining it.

Steam Green Carpet Cleaning Lists Several Ways To Stop Dirt From Damaging Your Carpets This Summer

Keep Shoes Off of Carpet: One of the biggest ways that dirt and debris ends up in your house this summer is on the bottom of shoes. This is for several reasons. One is that the shoes are what you are walking on outdoors and that happens to be dirt, grass and other debris. The shoes can collect all these types of debris and when someone walks through your door the dirt can easily be wiped on the carpet. The best way to combat it is to have a place for shoes to go. One great way to do that is to have a sign by the entry door that tells people to remove their shoes. Then of course you need to have a place for them to go which can be as simple as a plastic bin or shoe rack. This will encourage people to remove their shoes before they walk on your carpet.
Vacuum Carpet Regularly: One common mistake that people make during the summer and caring for their carpet is not vacuuming enough. You cannot continue to vacuum like you did before because you now will have more foot traffic in your home. It is best to remove as much of the debris and dirt that makes its way in your home before it gets grown into the carpet fibers. Be sure to step up your vacuuming game during the summer.
Dirt Trapping Door Mats & Runners: You also want to look at any entry points around your home and add a mat. The mat is a great place for people that are coming over to wipe their shoes off. That will help if they choose to keep their shoes on. It is also a great idea if you have four legged family members. They obviously can’t have them take off their shoes so a mat will stop some of the debris before it makes it to your carpet.

There are some stains that seem impossible to get out of your carpet. If you have girls in your house you know that there are things they use that seem to always get in the carpet. Makeup, hair product and nail polish just to name a few. These stains are a real problem and can be extremely difficult to remove if you don’t know what you are doing. Obviously the first step is to do what you can to prevent stains and spills from occurring. If you can’t do that which is likely you need to have a plan on how to deal with them.

Steam Green Carpet Cleaning Lists Some Ways to Remove Nail Polish From Your Carpets

Remove Spilled Nail Polish from Carpet Right Away: Just like any other kind of spill or stain you want to get to the nail polish spill as soon as possible. When you do see the spill you can use a spoon from your silverware drawer and use it to scoop away the excess. Use the spoon to carefully lift the spill away and remove what you can before you start the cleaning process. If you need to do this process more than once make sure that you wash off the spoon before you try and scoop away again.
Use The Right Carpet Cleaner: Now that you have the excess removed you will be able to start working on it without spreading it out further. This is why the dab concept is used when caring for any kind of stain. You want to use a clean dry cloth and a q-tip. Then go for the cleaner that you can trust will help to remove the nail polish. It may not be too surprising to know that you can actually use non acetone nail polish remover to get the polish off. Be careful when using any product so as not to ruin the carpet or rug. Use a small dab in a spot that is not noticeable. Then dab and wipe away the stain gently. You may need to use several applications to get the stain all the way out. You can also try an aerosol hairspray or rubbing alcohol to remove the spot if you don’t have access to nail polish remover.
Scratch Dry Polish off Carpet: If you were not able to get to the spill soon enough you may need to treat it dry. This is more difficult but there are some remedies. Start with a spoon again and use the back to scrape away what excess you can. Then use the vacuum to carefully lift the bits that have been pulled away from the carpet. You may also need to repeat this over and over. Be sure that you vacuum well and all the extra scraped off bits are off the carpet. You can then repeat the process above with the polish remover and the q-tip.

Man’s best friend is an extension of the family. Often spoiled with treats and toys, our furry kids are a pleasure. But just like other kids, they still contribute to messes in the home. Not depriving them of their comfort, the dog’s bed is often placed in a room where everyone hangs out in sad attempts to keep them up off the couch. But since these beds are on top of the floor, without cleaning the dog’s bed periodically, it can contribute to negative impacts on the flooring in addition to poor health and filthier conditions. Below, we at Steam Green Carpet Cleaning have put together a list of a method on how to clean the dog’s bed.

How to Clean or Wash a Dog Bed

1) Begin by vacuuming the surface with the vacuum’s hose and all the handy attachments to extract the dirt, debris, and dog hair. You can follow up with a lint roller to pick up the stubborn hair/fur embedded in the dog bed’s fibers for more efficient removal.
2) After the vacuuming is complete, unzip the exterior fabric cover, if applicable, and run it through the wash machine if it is washing machine safe; follow the manufacturer’s directions on washing machine specifics. If there are no instructions, prepare the washing machine by turning the setting to a large load, with cold water, and add the detergent safe for pets. Avoid adding other fabric or clothing in the same load. Repeat the wash cycle if the bed is especially dirty.
3) Follow the freshly laundered dog bed liner in the dryer cycle. If it is safe for pets add a minimum of one dryer sheet. The dryer sheets minimize the pet hair/fur from building up as well as greatly reducing the static electricity. Dry on a low temperature setting for 20 minutes to remove hair and wrinkles and excess moisture and allow the cover to air dry the remainder of the time to avoid any shrinkage.
4) According to the label’s directions, wash the interior bed foam, pillow, or cushion. If the label does not detail any directions continue reading. Fill the tub with cool or lukewarm water and add ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar and 1/8 cup of laundry detergent if the foam or pillow bed is washable, and submerge it in the tub. Work the soap in the foam with your hands; concentrate more efforts on any visible stains. Let the foam/pillow soak for approximately 15 minutes and then drain the water. After the bulk of the water is drained, squeeze the remainder of the water out of the pad. To rinse the bed, refill the tub with cool, clear water and submerge the foam/pillow, and work the soapy residue out of the pad. Once again, drain the water and squeeze the excess water from the foam/padding. For optimal results in drying and freshness, let the pad air dry outside if possible.
5) Clean the floor before replacing the freshly cleaned dog bed.

We didnt have the funds to buy new carpet so we thought we would try them. They were able to get the pet smell out and they even were able to get oil paint from my 2 year old out of an upstairs bedroom carpet. Would use again.
